So, im upragding my 1.9 TDI mk5 turbocharger, replacing it with one that kicks near the 200Bhp mark, what else should i upgrade with the turbo? im thinking injectors, anything else that would make it more effitient/ more BHP?

bolting on a new turbo wont make any difference unless you map the ecu. how much power do you want ?

yes, its mapped to the current turbo. fit a bigger turbo blowing more air and the car is still mapped to the old one so will fuel accordingly.

Okay cool thats fine, can you explain how turbo and injector size is measured? i have no idea about turbos and get confused when i see like PD150 injectors ?? Can you give me some guidance, so i can fit it all, then get it remapped.

Really you would want to fit the turbo and have it mapped, then the tuner will be able to tell you if you are running too lean and dial it back to safe running levels, they will spool it up to this point if it is done properly - which is when you need to start looking at pumps, pressure regulators and injector flow rates & pressures.

You might not need bigger injectors depending on what sort of power gain you are looking for. Don't forget the more you add, the more stress you put parts under so increased servicing etc. So think of what you want first and then budget to that or you will end up throwing money away when you might not need to.

Fitting bigger injectors on a regular map will just mean the injectors will fire for shorter amounts of time within its control capability at least, and will be less likely to output their full capacity unless your ECU is really dynamic.

Personally I would do exhaust / intake / turbo > map > see where the land lies.

Thanks for the advice, ive already upgraded my exhaust system, got a catback system which went from 1.75inch to 2.5 inch piping, (photo here)New Exhaust Photo by AaronB9006 | Photobucket, so now just a better turbo and intake and stick it on a dyno? why not injectors as well then dyno? and also can you explain howturbos and injectors are measured, i dont get the whole PD150, PD130 stuff?? Thanks for help !

most things are measured in CFM or some other volumetric flow rate - PD150/130 im not sure of the specifics myself.

You may need to uprate a whole bunch of things to make the bigger injectors worthwhile. If you know your CFM/volumetric capacity of your engine you can then find out what your turbo output is, and then size a valve accordingly to regulate the pressure you need and what level of boost you are after. The maths is pretty simple, but with the turbo you select and with the other mods combined you dont know if bigger injectors would actually be of benefit. If youre going for a bigger charge, make sure you can keep your charge temperature down if you go a lot bigger. Intercoolers and such.

You can of course up-rate everything and then go ahead, but I'd rather know what the limits are and work off upgrading that way unless you are working off someone elses work/blueprint. Depends how deep your pockets are really. What happens when you fit bigger injectors and then find your pressure isnt high enough to fuel it, rather than delivery of the injectors?

Then you need to go back and pay for for uprated pumps etc.

Well, being an 18 year old lad with a 1.9 Turbo car, my pockets are already relatively stretched, insurance wise... Ive got around 1.5k to get up to 180BHP, so stick with turbo and intake? can you also recommend me a turbo and intake you think would work best? cheers

I'm no expert on specifics, let alone diesels- i'm just a lowly engineer myself
