    I recently swapped out my 215K miles A4 avant 2.5TDi for a 56 reg 3.0L A6 LeMans Avant.

A little research lead me to work out that my MMi was on S/W version 2860.
I had a problem whereby my phone wouldn't stay hooked up to the MMi.

The only time I could get it to pair and even partially work was if I started off with a clear pairing history on both the car and the phone.
I could at this point pair and connect once only. I couldn't see the phone directory in my phone on the MMi screen, I could only call manually entered numbers and when they did connect, the person connected to couldn't hear any voice audio, but theirs could be heard in the car. Most of the options once initially paired were greyed out and unavailable.

This was the same with 3 x separate phones, (mine being a Samsung S6).
I came to the conclusion that the car software was the issue after checking the components and optical with VCDS. All returning "OK" in both sections, both hardware components and the Optical checks.

5 x CDs, all stamped as original via a supplier VAG Technik in Lithuania.
CD1 worked great, upgrade to 5150.

CD2 (Hanydyvorb2) showed there were updates to install ("Y" in the menu), but once launched, seems to just cycle constantly between continuous seemingly unsuccessful attempts to "initialise the device." I aborted the install at around 90 minutes later after circa 435 attempts to initialise the device.

CD3 installed and update to 5570 completed without a single hitch. As did the 2 x 2016 map updates

I've not used the maps since yet, but with just the updates ran off both discs, I couldn't see a map image when map selected so replaced the original (2006) map disc and then could see a map again.
Have map updates been held on the DVD unit or do I need to leave one of the 2 new discs in as the map database?

All attempts to go back and update via CD2 leaves me back in the constant loop of initialising the device endlessly.
All attempts made with Ignition off and over 12 volts at the battery with a charger running constantly.
A look through the menu after aborting shows a message saying "Update to version 999 was not downloaded. The device is still running version 700 unchanged."

I still can't hook up my phone other than the method described at the start so open to suggestions.
Is the BT Module there and not "active" normally somehow? Baffled as from fresh it will accept pairing, but then only partially work and then as soon as it's been disconnected by powering down, it will not auto connect again. neither will ir connect by any method other than clearing down the pairing on both devices and starting from scratch again.....

    Mike.

For the maps you need to leave DVD1 in the drive, there is no storage on the navigation module to hold the maps.

The BT module is know to be difficult to update. You could try pulling the fuse for 10min on the control head & BT module (this will disable the entire MMI system) then retry the update.

Worth a try I guess, does anyone know that fuse location off the top of their head?
(DVD1 back in and working fine BTW).

I think the BT & control head are on the passenger side, but cannot remember which ones they are.

I don't think your discs are original/oem btw, despite what it may say on them, easy indicator will be the price you paid for update and maps?

    Suspicions confirmed!

I ordered from them last year, it took 5 weeks to be delivered and when they eventually sent it was the wrong disc, so they refunded me.

I think they are burnt in Lithuania as copyright laws are different there, it may be easier to simply get an update set from Audi as they aren't expensive...the maps however are a different matter.

    Best of luck!

Suspicions confirmed? Am I missing something. What were you suspicious of. I made it clear where I got the full disc set from in my original post.

The maps and all of the other software has upgraded flawlessly. 2860 up to 5150. No problems. 5150 to 5570. N9 problems. Maps upgrade to 2016 (from 2006 maps) No problems.
Just this weirdness with the BT update......

I guessed that, but if it were my car I would get a kosher set of update discs from Audi, before I started looking at faulty modules, it could just be a fault on the BT disc (2?) from the supplier.

I think they are sommat like £14 from Audi.

I've just checked with the supplier these are genuine Audi discs not copies. They don't look like copies either. Im no wiser in finding a solution. I'd wondered if here was a module setting that I needed to switch on or whatever or a specific process which I had missed somehow....
