Hi Folks! Was looking at making my Bora v6 4motion into a turbo. Would an s4 motor off a b5 bolt on with little fuss or would it be easier to just modify the existing 2.8 motor I have into a turbo? Thanks in advance!

General advice is it's easier to sell the current car and buy the one you're trying to make.

Much easier when it comes to dealing with insurance companies and I believe the laws in Australia are far tighter than they are over here in regards to modifications of this nature.

It looks like you'd need prior approval (?) for this type of modification so that's something else to consider.

welcome to the forum. now, a vr6 (what you have) will bolt onto an s4, so the s4 engine would bolt to your box, but i doubt it would fit in your engine bay. the s4 lump is a true v6 with 2 heads, your vr6 is more a straight 6 than a v6. but the vr6 takes very well to turbocharging or even supercharging and the internals can take 400 plus bhp easily. personally i would go down that route, although a vr6 wont ever be as nice as an s4 with k04 hybrid turbos. a friend runs a golf v6 with a blower and that goes well enough.. i think he runs an eaton charger.

esh replied at the same time as me, so if the rules in oz are that tight, just buy an s4. much easier and you get proper 4wd.

Rules are pretty good for modifying cars here. As long as the car is safe and road legal then do you what you want pretty much.

fit a turbo or supercharger then. a supercharger will give less overall grunt, but the power comes in from tickover to the red line. a turbo will boost from about 3-4 k upwards. the s4 lump with 2 small turbos gives boost all the way from nowhere to 7k, best of both worlds.
