Oil pressure light A4

Hi I have an Audi a4 2005 2.0tdi the oil pressure light has come on, was wondering if an oil and filter change would resolve this? oil has not been changed for a while

more than likely it wont help. search 2.0 tdi oil pump problems.

Hi just had my car in to local garage to get checked, been told everything pointing to oil pump looking at £2000 - £3000 to get fixed does that sound about right or should I try and get 2nd opinion before getting rid of car?

Nope , thats for a complete oil pump twin balancer shaft module , you only need 1 remanufactured modified balancer shaft and longer harder 100mm hex key £215 + 3 - 5 hrs labour .

You need to check if you've got a chain driven or gear driven,if its chain driven chances are the chain, teeth, and tensioner are in bad shape so the garage are giving you a worse case senario.

Good point it could of been the double trouble of the chain tensioner breaking and the slack chain whipping the teeth off .

Did garage say it was chain or gear driven ?

2005 model its most probably a chain driven,unless you've heard severe rattling at the front fingers crossed it maybe OK,get a quote for the upgraded balance shaft,problem is until you start stripping things down you just don't know the final bill.
