Hi new guy here from the cardiff area, looking to buy a Audi A4 B7 S-Line

short profile of myself so as to help any potential people who may want to help with any
    questions i may have

basically have owned a high performance turbo japanase car (celica ST205) with mods
    for the last 11 years!

ive had a great time with the car, but being a bit older im looking on getting something
(i consider) to be good looking and classy, but grown up at the same time

im really fussy with cars and the B7 S-Line, is the only car i really like/want to own
so this is a very steep learning curve, as i need to start to learn everything relevent with buying one of these

a few things i know i want out of the car, it has to be black in very good condition and in S-Line trim
but i would also like to ask, what is actually added to make it a S-Line? from my very limited reading/experience
its a sport and trim package?
also a decent performing engine, which could be modified to make a little quicker
im not expecting S4 performance from a 2.0/1.9 just something that can be made a little more exciting/quicker

also im very confused by the number of engines available and what the main difference is in them
(im still trying to find a decent site showing engine performance spec and 0-60 times for referance)

ideally id like a solid unit (as of yet i dont know if there are any weak engines in the range, which should be avoided)
no disrespect, but useually there are in most car ranges

im probably going to buy within 6 months, maybe a bit sooner, so any advise or guideance would be welcome

Hi and thanks for the help/advise

well my budget is 3.5 - 4k maybe more for the right car

main usage, difficult to say as i dont use a car on a daily basis
but probably only occational use, shopping and the odd drive to brecon and back for work

annual milage again as above, ive no real use for a car as a daily driver
my car at the moment is only used once a week and the odd run, ive only put around 800 miles on it in the last 2 years
again another reason to sell, as the cars just not getting used as it should now

petrol/diesel, not really bothered to be honest, as mentioned in my first post
ideally id like a unit (which evers best) that i can do a bit too and add to the performance a little
again im not after S4 performance, the car i own is more than enough with the work ive had done
but having never driven a diesel, im not sure if it would suit me, are they noisey?
ideally id need to take a drive in a diesel to see if it suited me

as mentioned, there does seem to be alot of differnt engine choices for these cars, so im as of yet unclear
    on the best Unit

the whole point of the Audi is so i can have a more grown-up and classy car

ive no intention of modding the car, just a little increase in power/torque to add to driveability
and maybe leather seats if the car doesnt have them (as ive noticed) it does seen most dont

you have said you don't do many miles, like fast cars and mentioned s4 twice already, so go get one. you would need a few more quids though, so maybe look a bit older , like a b6 or b5. a diesel is a waste unless you are doing the miles to warrant it.

id be lying if i said i hadnt considered it, but its more to do with how the B7 looks
it (to me) looks more like a modern Audi with the front and rear, although i do like the old shape
id doesn`t grab me enough to want one (as mentioned) im really fussy with cars and the B7 is the only
replacement im really looking at (i actually nearly bought a AVANT about 4 years ago)
but due to a death in the family, everything got put on hold and hadnt thought about the Audi
    until about 6 months ago

i dont really want to spend anymore on a car that would probably spend most of the time in the garage
locked away, as thats the possition im in at the moment

its not really a massive cost issue, but haveing spent quite a considerable amount on my car
    with tuning and upgrades

i just want a more grow-up classy car, which looks great and i can drive/look after without haveing to spend a large amount
when something needs replaceing, as with my car

ive no intention of moddifying the car, except maybe a Ecu for a bit more
Bhp and torque to make it more driveable

you mention the diesel, it would not be any point looking at unless im doing decent milage?
from what i can see the 1.9/2.0 petrol are the best engines for theses cars?

as said would be nice to get the higher Bhp unit and then do a slight tune
just to get the best from the engine and add driveability

yes that shape, as mentioned they (to me anyhow) look very modern and are a very classy looking car
even the newer models look very similar

as said, i dont really need a high performance car now as been through that, with my car

also it has to be black with S-Line trim and definatly not a Auto!

do love the front seats thought

Heated leathers seats are lovely. Dont rule out the auto.....well not the tiptronic which is semi auto with steering wheel paddles. I'm from a background of fast cars, racing, modifying etc......you'll be depressed in a standard run of the mill petrol or diesel. That's why i went for the 3.0 tdi which is now remapped. More powerful than 95% of cars you'll ever come across.
Stretch your budget and enjoy each drive.
Personally i prefer the Avant to the saloon......looks wise. Seems more of a balanced car to me. An a4 rs4 avant in racing blue......why would you need any other car??

    Here's my B7:

    really good looking car

thats exactly the car i was going to buy about 4 years ago, strangely though i like the AVANT in silver
but i only want a black saloon

what first drew me to these cars, was seeing the RS6 on the into scene of Layer cake (if only i had the budget)

with respects to the Auto box, ive driven a few cars (including AMG Mercs) in a Auto
and know i will never truly enjoy a car with a Auto box

i know what your saying about the speed thing, but as mentioned im pretty much past that now
although i know it will be a shock and ill have to get used to not have that power on-Tap

being honest i much prefer the way a car feels to drive over out right performance
