Hi guys, I really hope someone can help. I have A 1996 Audi cabriolet with a manual roof.

So the procedure to open the roof is as follows

Key in the ignition and turn on
switch by the hand brake drops all the windows
pull down and twist the handle by the rear view mirror and the roof releases.
lift up the rear of roof and press the switch inside drivers door to release bit where the roof folds into
    fold down roof, job done

However today this is not working, this is what is happening now

Key in ignition and turn on
The switch by the handbrake does not drop the windows
When you pull down and twist the handle it only turns a tiny bit and the roof is still locked in place.

I really hope someone can understand what i am saying i have no idea what to do.

Thank you so much for reading Xx

How long since you last opened the roof.
When you turn the handle, this should operate the windows automatically.
If your twist handle mechanism has not broken or seized there are many things to inspect.
Handbrake switch must work, otherwise the car thinks it is moving and will not allow roof to open
Boot lock must be working correctly, otherwise car may think the boot is open and will not allow roof to open.
Have a poke around at the fuse box and check window operation fuse.
    Check switch is not faulty.

The most common cause for faulty roof operation is that the cable in the boot hinge area on both sides have been damaged, you may look at them and think they are ok but they may be damaged internally, been there myself
These issues are not specific to just the auto hoods but will upset manual roof aswell.
Have a poke about and come back to us
