I was parking the car half on a verge, driving forward almost in position, and a clunk. Despite on approach it looked flat, a boulder was hidden by slightly overgrown grass. The damage was to part #4G0 145 805 J, it's like a radiator in front of the radiator, all the coolant leaked out.

Being a Sunday I had the car recovered to the drive. I think it's an insurance job, I expect labour and part/s will exceed 1k, I have no basis for this guess other than if repaired by Audi assumed 6hr labour charge and part... I don't think there's any further damage.

I expect my insurer will have a preferred repairers, and it won't be Audi. Should I care, and has anyone successfully and with ease been able to get them their insurer to switch?

Oh and yes I feel sick at the consequences of my judgement error. When we moved the car off the boulder I expected it to be huge, when in fact it was only about 120mm deep, the verge un level contributed. From 5m away in the direction I approached at 6ft let alone driving height the boulder was disguised by grass. The road is only just two car widths touching mirrors, and used by large agricultural vehicles. I believe liability could be with the council responsible for highway, I guess that's down to the insurance companies appetite to pursue.

Depends who you're with, Aviva have arranged for me to go to an Audi approved workshop. If It's mechanical I'm sure it will be fine. Sorry to hear about it though.

That is the intercooler, the oil leaking out is that which collects in the system normally. The price I have for the part is £489.42

    That's reassuring Whippy.

The intercooler, thanks Crasher. The worrying thing, the leak is definitely coolant, it was red. Not a drip of oil, And I can't see damage to the radiator, that said I can't get under nor see enough from peering.

I wouldn't go through your insurers for £1000 worth of mechanical repairs.

I suspect the liability rests with you, as the local council didn't make you mount the verge or install a large stone in your path without a warning sign. And there was no-one else involved so you can't even argue you were run off the road.

Even if you have a protected no claims bonus they will load your insurance semi-permanently because of the fact that you park in places where your car can be damaged like that.

As for who you want to carry out the work, you can insist on an Audi dealer doing it.

If you park there a lot, it might be worth looking at some form of sump guard.

Does the C7 not have underbody protection like the C6?

My C6 SE saloon has plastic shielding all the way from the front bumper to the transmission, as do all C6's to my knowledge. Wasn't aware that the C7 doesn't have any...but am guessing a weight saving exercise with most newer cars, as it all probably weighs in at around 10lbs in total.

I wonder if one's available for the C7, as you'd have thought it would make the car slip through the air easier if a smooth surface underneath and more aerodynamic means bettr economy?

That's interesting. My allroad definitely has something under there but it's not as much as my A4 allroad had.

    Strange.
