Good morning forum users,

Another generic question from a DIYer: which threadlock / anti-seize to apply on which part of a car?

It seems that there are a lot of different types of threadlock / anti-seize to prevent nuts and bolts to seize-up over time, depending on the material of the metal (steel to steel / steel to alloy) and where it is (subject to extreme heat or exposure to outside).

I watched this YouTube clip and I understand the basic difference between threadlock and anti-seize:

I understand that threadlock (Loktite seems to be the brand) is good for anywhere but near extreme heat. And anti-seize copper grease is good for extreme heat, but not good for an interface with different metals?

My question is which threadlock or anti-seize is appropriate for which part of a car? Specifically, I want to seek people's trusted grease for these locations:

  • Front control arm bolts (exposed to the element)
  • Inlet and exhaust manifold bolts (extreme heat and different metal contacts)
  • Exhaust pipe sleeve (extreme heat and exposed to the element)

Your help is very grateful as always.
