Hi there, just though I would ask the greater public if anyone has had problems with high oil consumption in their Audi engines.

I bought my first Audi 6 months ago, a 2002 2.4 Cabriolet. In the time since then I have had to top up the oil with 5x 1litre top ups, works out to be about 1litre every 1000miles.

just booked it in for a health check as it is an approved used from my local dealer and is still under warranty from them. However the service reception were reluctant to take it as they quote the oil spec to be half a litre every 600 miles. That fits with my consumption rate but I cant help thinking that this is way too much oil use for a modern engine.

Has anyone else had the same problem?

Well, the Cabby was given a clean bill of health - No Leaks, Not burning oil. Nobody knows where the oil is going but apparantly its just normal usage. Hmmm

Would still like to hear from anyone with a 2.4 that is experiencing the same. Once I know I'm not the only one then I might start to believe that a litre of oil every 1200 miles is normal.

    Regards

I see the oil warning light a bit too often for my liking on my A4 2.4 also. It is on a 53 and has done average miles. Guess it is just a "feature" of that engine....

I have heard (albeit anecdotally) that Audis are reknowned for their oil consumption, which is considered quite normal particulary in new/low miles engines as they bed down. I have a friend who has one of the new shape TTs and their oil gets used up at a ferocious rate.
That said, my own 2 Audis, both at around 110,000 miles and 10 years old, use no oil at all! Ones a v6 diesel and ones an 1800 ADR petrol

Yes, my 2002 cabriolet gets through 2 litres of oil every 2000 miles +/-. When I queried it with the dealer, they said that the aluminium block will absorb that for the first 10,000 miles. Mine had 21,000 miles at the time, now 43,000 and it still the same. I had the previous model cabriolet for 7 years before this one, and that went for 10,000 miles before it needed more oil. Progress?!
