    Hello Chaps and chapesses

I've just sold my Passat TDI and am now looking for its replacement.

Can anyone tell me the output and comment on the realistic mpg of a 2.4 petrol A4 auto?, only I've seen one I quite fancy.

Low mpg doesn't scare me - I'm currently considering a Passat 2.8 4mo, I'm just curious as to how it'll compare.

    Any comments gratefully received.

    Cheers

    Gaz

Dont think there will be too much in it.... Although the 2.4 2wd will be slightly more efficient than the 4wd 2.8. Probably around 2 - 5 mpg difference IMHO.

    Both lovley cruising cars....

Should do 28mpg, assuming it is a saloon model.

I know its not an automatic but my manual 2.4 does 27mpg on average. If like any other automatic, then you can probably expect a few mpg less than the manual.

    Thanks for the replies people

I guessed mid twenties would be about my lot.

    Is the 2.4 a 150bhp engine?

Final (ish) question for A4 owners: I'm 6'5" and usually have to have the drivers seat back as far as it will go. In my Passat there was still enough leg room behind me for my daughter to sit. Unless I'm mistaken, the A4's floorpan is shorter than the Passat's (both B5/3B platforms?), which brings me to wonder if there's enough room as it has to be a family car.

The obvious thing is to try a couple of local cars out and that's just what I'll do before travelling any distance, but I'd appreciate your opinions.

    Cheers

You better stick with the passat, in the a4 there is no room in the back and i am only 1.7m tall ! My wife drives a 1998 passat and there is soo much room when i drive, i cannot believe it. As a family car, only the a6/skoda superb comes close !

There may not be enough room for you in an A4, try an A6, they're bigger.

The 2.4 is a 165bhp engine. Oh and as for rear leg room. If you have your seat right back then there is definitely no room for a passenger behind you.

Hmmm, well I went to see a '98 A4 today.

And I did need the drivers seat all the way back, and even then could only just get my knees under the steering wheel

My daughter had no chance in the back - it felt quite small inside.

A6, Superb or another Pastie it'll have to be then

Many thanks for your replies and help
