    Unhappy Gear linkage – 14-10-2007,06:00 PM
    Can anyone advise as to what maybe the problem with my wifes Bora V5. Whist driving home she heard a clunk and now the car seems stuck in 3rd gear. The gear leaver has gone slopy / loose and she now can't get the car out of gear or select anyother gear.
    Could it be the gear lever linkage broken or is it likely to be anything else (gearbox or clutch)

    It sounds like one of the gear linkage cables could be broken or have become detatched. The ends of each cable are easy to see on top of the gearbox to the near side of the engine, but if it's at the end connected to the gear lever you might have a bit more difficulty in seeing it.

    Thanks Deserthawk just as you diagnosed one of the cables had broke so just a matter of getting a replacement fitted. The wife is now happily running around in her V5 again.cheers.
