    Hi
I'm new to this site so hello to all fellow VW owners

I have a problem with my Mk4 golf '99', initially it was stalling whenever i stopped at a round about, traffic lights etc. I did have it MOT'd and it failed the emissions test and was in desperate need of a new cat.
I had this replaced friday and still she stalls and judders.... i checked my oil level and found a slight leak, therefore treated that and topped up my oil level. It now idles a bit better but still wants to stall and fumes coming up through the engine.
Which brings me to my next point since the mechanic fitted my cat the exhaust fumes seem to be coming up through the engine bay. It really feels as if the engine isn't getting enough oxygen or whatever.
I'm just using common sense now because i'm no mechanic,
But the so called mechanic also said my centre box has a hole in it so could this be a contributing factor, though I must admit i can hear a blowing noise coming from underneath the car
Also the mechanic wants to hack my car on to a computer i personally think it's the emissions i.e EXHAUST AREA !!! can't you tell i am no professional HE HE

Please Please give me your suggestions i really need them.

P.S Lamba sensors have been replaced etc

    THANKYOU
    Vicky

What area are yo in vicky? The first thing you need to do is get the car fault read. Doing this will tell you which components have issues. You need someone with vag com.

Hi Vicky, welcome to the forum.

A hole in the centre section will present itself as you have described. It will affect emissions and will still fail MOT. VagCom is really the easiest (and if you get someone on here to do it for you, the cheapest) way to check everything once the hole has been repaired.

    You're welcome

Check this thread https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ead.php?t=5319 for a full list of users offering their vagcom services (most if not all dont charge a penny)

If there are none local to you then give me a shout back here, I can get you the contact details of a guy in Portsmouth (from another forum) who may be able to help.

Well just an update people... my golf has been taking away to be hacked into a computer (vag.com) so hopefully i will have some good news today my next door neighbour helped me out so fingers and toes crossed !!!

I was very concerned yesterday as now the exhaust fumes are coming through the vents and its not healthy for me and my baby boy. BLOODY CARS when they go they don't do it by half do they

The small oil leak is still there but my main concern is since the exhaust and cat has been fitted its made no difference to the stuttering and juddering as well as stalling. The centre box needs sorting that's a cert, so would this cause these symptoms then ??? and why would exhaust fumes be coming up through the engine bay grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr is that the centre box aswell or an ill fitted exhaust and cat ???

he he well speak soon everyone

i cant believe they fixed your Cat but not the centre box?! i would have personaly got a stainless steel system. The fumes (if the hole is big enough) will get into the car easily
