    Hi
My Clocks have failed on my A8 (D3 4.2 '53 plate). I sent them off as there was no ignition (apparently clock problems are a known trait of Audi) and they have come back un repaired as their processor has totally burnt out. can anyone advise me of my options. I have been told that a new set of clocks will be needed as opposed to second hand/refurbished ones because the clocks complete with the car have to be taken to an Audi dealer who for a fee (£175 approx) will plug them into Germany who will code them to the car and put the correct mileage on them. Is there another way????.

if you can find some clocks with the same part number, then find someone with either autologic or vag tacho, they may be able to get the skc code out of the old clocks and get it all working. you won't find a dealer who will code in used clocks though, only new clocks.

your best bet is to do what i did. call the local dealer and ask them where they send the cars they cant fix. if they wont tell you then get on the blower and ask some local garages. eventually you will find that one bloke who works out of a shed or from the back of a van who can do anything with a computer.

There is no SKC on the D3 and later models but you buy used clocks and the DIS and speedo are disabled as an antitheft measure called Component Protection.
The dealer may refuse to remove it (mine did on 'ethical' grounds!)
I used Diagnostic equipment of Audi VW Specialists Centre in London who did it for a cheap price in 15 mins with the official Audi equipment and the required online decryption service to Gecko at Audi HQ.
I used later clocks for a 2008 model (mine is 2006) and got them with the Wide DIS screen.
The mileage is even harder to correct and the above company didn't want to do it.

Not yet, I really should as it is >180,000 higher than it shows, the tool is ~£90 on aliexpress, so I would do that, the people who do it for you all seem too dodgy and charge ~£50 anyway.

Hi Kergan, I have just had exactly the same problem happen to mine. Where did you send your unit for repair, as I would like to try a repair before a full replacement. If any others have any recommendations I would be glad to hear them??

    Thanks!
