Hello, please see the 2 pics below of my handbrake cables. I removed these cables from the subframe and in the process of pulling one of them out from the subframe it 'stretched' exposing a threaded rod which I cannot push or screw back in to its slot. The adjusting mechanism works on both of the cables (the rotating sleeve with a clip at the end which extends or shortens the cable on a thread) but the stretched one is now too short for use due to the fact that the thread has come out of its slot. Does anyone know if this threaded rod is meant to screw in to something and is it normal for it to be adjusted? Or, is the only option a new cable?

    Good cable:

For each caliper, the threaded end must be screwed into the cable to the handbrake lever. The cylinder is rotated in/out to adjust the pre-tension of the handbraje - for each side, the adjustment is made until end of cable raises just off each caliper. However, before making any adjustment, you need to lock the compensating bar on the handbrake lever itself to keep the bar from turning.
I suspect this is the reason you cannot screw the threaded rod back into the cable - the other end is turning with it.
    Hope this helps.

remove the circlip , on the left in the lower picture. now wind the section down past where the circlip was, now push the threaded bit back in. fit the cables and they will then self aadjust to position. re fit the circlip.
