    Hi, all.

Decided to get a VAGCOM cable and download the shareware software. Had to slightly modify the connector to seat it into the Passat. ( But was expect that ). I ran the autoscan, and the results came back as:
    VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-US
    Chassis Type: 3B - VW Passat B5
    Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,16,17,19,35,36,37,46,55,56,57,58,76
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Address 01: Engine
    Controller: 038 906 019 BK
    Component: 1,9l R4 EDC G000SG 1061
    Coding: 00002
    Shop #: WSC 05311
    1 Fault Found:
17664 - Engine Coolant Temp Sensor (G62): Open or Short to Plus
    P1256 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
    Readiness: N/A
    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Address 03: ABS Brakes
    Controller: 8E0 614 111 AH
    Component: ABS/ASR 5.3 FRONT D10
    Coding: 00012
    Shop #: WSC 05314
    No fault code found

I ran this test without starting the engine, can I assume that I do have a fault, although the car doesn't show any of the symptoms that other members have reported.
I have recently replace the air flow meter. and have read the various topics and thanks to " cbrpaul " detailed instructions it looks like a simple job.

Not sure how to clear the code , I only have the shareware version 409.1, it tells me to use the Professional version for this function. Do I still have to register the shareware version, or buy the pro version in order to clear this fault code?

    Thanks.

Just a quick update, I replaced the sensor, only issue I had was removing the plastic circlip, which just pulls downwards from the tab located at the bottom.

Used about 3/4 litre of coolant, after a quck drive round the block. The engine now runs about 200 rpm lower on tick over and doesn't sound so rough when driving.

I haven't done a code clear yet, ( need to read up on that first ) .
