    Default MK3 GTi 8v Problems with reverse – 09-08-2006,10:43 AM
    i have a P reg Golf Mk3 Gti 8v and reverse gear is giving me all kind of problems. Everytime i try to reverse the car will go a few yards then will come out of gear making that horrible sound.

    Anyone got any idea wot the problem could be? All the other gears are fine its just reverse creating the problem. I'm hoping its not a case or installing a new tranny cos i'm guessing that would hurt my wallet big time

    If it's a car with high miles, could it be engine/gearbox mounts that are worn?

    68000 miles thats not that high is it? ill get mechanic to take a look

    At 68000 I doubt it's the mounts. Can't help you any more than that as I have no experience with a Mk3.

    grrrrrrrrrrrrr mechanic says whole gearbox will need removing, £400 - £500 job looks like my credit cards getting spanked!!!
