first thing is check the battery for broken cell or cells

second is check the voltage of the alternator output to make sure the battery is getting a full charge, anything over 14 volts

I have a multimeter, it wasn't an expensive one so I'm not sure if I could measure the output voltage with that?
What about broken battery cells? Can I check that myself?

So today I hooked my car up to a diagnostic program I bought on ebay for dirt cheap, not sure how good it is, but it's a VAG-KKL and the software is labeled as VAG COM Release 409-1. And the only address I was able to get information out was 01 - Engine, and it found this fault code:

    1.jpg

To me it seems like my fuel temperature sensor is broken, am I right with this? Could this be the problem to my engine stuttering during ignition when warm? Also, why am I only able to read 01 and no other stuff?

Looks like the fuel temp sensor is a good place to start.
I think you are only seeing OBD II (engine) data with that cable, as your car uses CAN data network I don't think that cable will allow communication with other modules.

I was wondering if you'd be so kind to help me figure out the exact cable I need to buy on ebay that would work for my car? I currently own the exact same one as here:

VAG com 409 1 ELM327 OBD 2 II USB Cable Car Diagnostic Scanner Tool for Audi VW | eBay

Thank you very much in advance

    PS: My car is a Golf MK5, 1.9 TDI, 105 BHP / 77 kW, BKC Engine, 7th / 8th VIN number: "1J".

I fixed my warm start issue with a new battery. (same engine as yours). The starter needs to spin a bit faster when starting from warm. My old battery seemed fine, voltage was ok and alternator was ok. But a new battery cured the problem.

the fuel temp sender unit, you could simply disconnect it to see if indeed it is away

Do your self a favour and buy from VW . It might be updated even though its a sender unit, some of the coolant temp sender units have been updated due to faults

It wont cost much more to get a genuine one, its the muckabout factor of fitting a duff aftermarket and having problems with it.

So I fixed my warm start issue.

It turned out to be the starter, had it fixed and now the engine fires on easily even when warm. Thank you all for your input!
