    Hey Folks,

I have a 2008 sline 2.0 tdi saloon, it was in at Audi today and they carried out the usual health check and mentioned one rear spring is snapped (they also mentioned the front drop links are worn).

I have had a look to see if I could do this job at home and finding it a bit hard to tell.

Audi are saying £600 to do both rear springs so would obviously prefer to do these myself.

I realise the sline is (I think) 30mm lower than standard so does that make the job harder also where is the best source and part number for the springs?

I saw someone mention on another thread they got a fork style compressor (vag group tool) on ebay for £30 which lets you do the job with little other strip down but not quite sure what that tool is!

    Any help appreciated

Are you referring to the the sway link bars in the front as drop links? If so they are very easy to change. As for the springs I bought mines from Audi online oem they were cheaper than the dealer. To get the correct type of springs call the dealer and give them your vin and they will tell you exactly what kind you need the springs have markings on them with color to help identify.

I'll need to check the print out from Audi but sure it says drop links but i also assumed sway bars, they don't worry me. More concerned about the rear springs, how did you do yours?

My Mechanic did it with spring compressor at the garage. I didn't personally do those but the sway links are fairly simple to do your self. I didn't do it but I watched him and it was not that hard.

The tool I think is Vag 1752 which I think would let me remove the srings with minimal strip down but as mini is the lower sline I wonder if I will get enough compression

I was charged £380 I think, by Audi Huddersfield for 2 sline springs replaced, so go back and tell em to,look again. Only takes 2 hours max with right tool. You need the right tool no room for standard Spring compressors.

Hey folks, has anyone actually done rear coils on an Sline themselves?

Here is a tool which I think would work but not sure regarding clearance.

This thread went away at a tangent straight away regarding the drop links above which I also need to do, NOT sway bars!

I have one of those tools there very big so unless you can get the car up high enough you might run into trouble.

You can change the spring without the Audi spring compressor.

So you don't have to compress the spring so much remove the drop links (sounds like they a shot anyway)

Remove the two bolts holding the shock mount to the body (ignore the damage to the mount shown in the photo)

Then you can get a couple of spring compressors in to remove the spring, one goes in from the bottom & the other for the top. I had to make up a couple of spacers otherwise the long bolt on the spring compressors fowl against the bodywork/lower arm.
