My son has a 2011 A6 2.0 TDI Saloon (this is probably C6 platform as it was first registered in Jan 2011).

One of the rear parking sensors is faulty, I've identified it as is doesn't tick when in reverse. I would like to try and replace it without having to remove the bumper as I really do not want this hassle as I'm getting too old for this. It is the inside right sensor and by loosening the underside rear panel I can get my arm up inside and physically get hold of the sensor.

Can anyone who has replaced one of these describe to me just what the procedure is to replace this sensor (such as how does the plug connector come off and how is the sensor actually fixed to the bumper) as I would be working blind and with only one hand. If it is possible to do it this way I could save my son quite a bit of expense as the Audi dealer has quoted £300-£400 to do the job.

Lots of posts about replacing them, which a search will throw up. The inner ones a re a bit of a pain to replace (and so are the outer ones) See if you can find Gupsterg's posts on it.

Try not to do it when it's cold. Garage the car if you can as the plastic will be brittle. There are two lugs holding the sensor to the bumper, using a small screwdriver in one hand you can, with patience, prize one to the side whilst pushing the sensor inwards. Then wiggle it. When it's out It's then easier to see the wiring plug and disconnect it. Plug in and the replace the sensor in place. Fiddley but do able

The outer ones can reached from the outer sides of the exhaust pipes stick your hand up to sensor behind the bumper.

The inner ones will need the diffuser screws removing and then get a torch/block of wood to hold the diffuser away and you can get to the inner ones, it help to get the backup as high as you can and use stands not jacks only.
