    Hi Guys

mk7 1.6 Tdi - planning on doing oil changes every 6k my self and then having it booked into vw when ever the service light turns on.

Have ordered my Pela 6000 oil extractor pump and awaiting for delivery.. Great,no no........vw parts department confirmed that the oil filter is underneath the car... damn it!!

Now it seems that i wont be able to use the pela pump that i've bought due to the oil filter being located underneath the car. I am aware you can buy axle stands and ramps etc but i just don't feel comfortable and confident in lying underneath the car... thats the problem.

What are my options, that would still enable me to carry out oil changes myself at every 6k?

Can i just do an oil change at every 6k using the pela 6000 oil extractor pump and NOT having to change the oil filter- or is changing the oil filter absolutely necessary?

    Many thanks
    Cameron

Just get it serviced annually or every 10k and save yourself the hassle. You won't notice any difference over the life of the car.

If you're not going to change the oil filter its hardly worth messing about with a Pela.

As Rob said just get an oil change every 10k miles/ one year.
The longlife oil ( VW 507 ) is formulated for up to 18,000 miles/ two years anyway.

You have to change the oil filter.

many thanks guys for your replies.

Damn it VW.... it seems like i will have it booked in at an independent garage at every 6k for an oil filter change. I wont have it stamped in service book. When the service light comes on will then have it service at VW.

What i cant seem to get myhead round why did VW had to place the oil filter underneath the car. On all TDI golf's that i am familiar with had the oil filters on top, why did VW need to place it underneath this time for the mk7???

why do you want to change the oil every 6k? Are you using it in a particularly punishing environment or driving it extremely hard?
