    Hello forum...

My parents have been enjoying a 2014 model VW Golf for the last year but they want more space - so an estate version seems appropriate.

They don't want to spend over £21k which is doable. What is not doable (it seems) is their strong desire for the 8" SatNav ("discover navigation pro"). I think it's the sheer size of it (with poor eyesight) that is attractive, rather than all the extra features that it comes with.

Problem is that it's such an expensive option that it appears that there are very few of them on the secondhand market. I say "appears" because when one is searching on AutoTrader, some of the ads don't mention the size of the screen (I concede that this likely means it's a small one!).

Any suggestions on whether finding such a car is a fool's errand? It's OK if the car is as old as the one they've got (so up to 2 years). I suspect it could be a matter of patience, in which case maybe some kind of "keep a look out for this spec" type feature would be useful. Not sure if AutoTrader have that...

    Cheers!

If you are after an estate with loads of room I would suggest looking at Skoda Superb's.. I have a MY2015 Hatch the room is unbelievable ... plus it is the best car I have owned... plus for the money they are very well spec'd

Have a look at Drive the deal website. After discount you can get a new Golf Estate 1.4 tsi 125 SE 5dr manual with discover pro well within your budget.

How funny! I just bought one myself.... Had it for nearly a week now and love it. But too big for them, I think. Brilliant VFM. You're not on Briskoda, are you?

Yeah, I've been telling them about DtD, but they want 2.0 Diesel and DSG and ACC and metallic paint and.... It's the 8" satnav that's the real sticking point. By the time all that's added on, it's about £23.5k (even with big discount). That's probably worth the extra - i.e. a year newer for £2.5k - but cash is cash!

How would they be able to maximise their sale price, I wonder? They have a very well specced vehicle (including the 8" never-go-back SatNav) but obviously the dealers aren't prepared to pay for the extras.

Ah - I always get confused by MY2015 - thought you meant you had the same one I do. Well, this is my first Skoda, and it's a limouzeeeene! You can get HUGE amounts of wine in the back. I considered a secondhand one like yours myself, but (sorry) thought it ugly in the hatch variant. When I saw the prices of the S3 (I've got mine on PCH) and went for a test-drive, I was smitten.

Too big for the folks and I suspect they may have a smidge of badge pride. Not sure what the equivalent to the Golf estate would be. Think even the Octavia would be bigger. And the others are pretty ugly.

Yeah, mine is the old shape but it is a MY2015, quite like the look of it myself, although the new one is nice...

I would have liked an estate but could not justify the extra £2000 over the hatch, especially when I carry next to nothing...

They could also look at the Golf SV. It is a fair bit bigger that the Golf hatch, and is also taller so is easier to get into and out of. I have the standard satnav in mine and I'm not sure that the Pro version is that much bigger.

An Octavia is noticeably larger than a Golf, even though they share the same platform. Worth a look. But if they can stretch to a Superb, that has to be the answer.Fantastic car.
