    Hello people,

Last week I noticed some white smoke coming out from underneath the front of the car right after a cold start.
Didn't think much of it, but today the wife called on her way to the mall. Said the car smoked white, and it smelled like burning oil.

When she came home she said the car really left behind tons of white smoke in the last km uphill to our house. No smoke after parking, but it really smelled like oil burning all over the place.

    Observations:
    1) Cannot see any liquids leaking underneath the car
    2) Coolant level has dropped significantly. 1cm below the "min" mark. Half a year ago, I know coolant level was just beneath the max mark with warm engine.

    3) VCDS scan says:

I have read that white smoke and losing coolant equals bad EGR cooler or something?

    Any thoughts?

    Regards,

You checked the dipstick and oil cap for creamy stuff?

    Is the coolant contaminated?

Coolant does not seem contaminated. No creamy stuff on cap.
On each start from stand still, I now leave behind a big white cloud..

There is absolutely no coolant underneath the car.
I just drove 10km. On that tour the coolant level went down by 1.5cm measured on the expansion tank. That is quite a lot. If there really is an external leak - it would show on the ground. But it doesn't.

Funny thing I went from Swedish to German car cause' I was so tired of these kind of unexpected hickups....Lol..

I had this happen on another car.
A big white cloud when starting from cold, but once the car had warmed up it was not too bad at all.
The problem turned out to be a crack in the cylinder head.
When it was standing cold, coolant was seeping into one of the cylinders, then when starting up it turned to steam.
It could also be your head gasket.

If it really is cracked in the cylinder head, this will be my first and last Audi. That should not happen with a 9 year old car.

The smoking is there both when warm and cold now. Symptoms tell me head gasket. If so, not impressive at all. This is supposed to be a premium car with excellent build quality.

Cars can be a bag full of nerves when things go wrong so the best thing to do is have so checks done, I. E pressure test and compression test etc etc.

A cracked head is not impossible but really only occors on cast iron heads,
    Head gasket, again maybe.

You may get lucky and all it is a pressure leak which is hitting the exhaust, so you won't always see it.
