    hi all,

My A7 disconnects the phone on bluetooth when a data SIM is inserted into the MMI. As i learnt here earlier this was a bug in the earlier versions of the MMI (i have HN+_EU_AU_P0160), which should get resolved with an MMI software upgrade.

Car is with the dealer right now for some bits and reported my symptoms and have suggested perhaps an MMI upgrade as a solution.

Can i confirm that this is in fact an issue that should go away with an MMI upgrade, as am unsure if the dealer is aware of the symptom or the fix.

tried to explain on the phone, have now written down as below to explain:

    1. Symptom: Whilst phone is connected on blue-tooth if i insert a data sim the phone on blue-tooth gets disconnected (alternatively if the data sim is already inserted the car will not connect a phone on blue-tooth). i have tried this with multiple phones as well, all of which connect on blue-tooth without any issue only if there's no data card.

    2. why i say this cannot be 'as designed':

phone capability is unusable when a data sim is inserted, as the address-book is on the phone (not on the data sim).

When the car initially pairs with a phone it does load up the address-book from the phone to the car, but when the car disconnects the phone on blue-tooth when a data sim is inserted the car no longer shows that address-book. So the phone-book becomes inaccessible.

Have also advised them that i found the remedy via an AUDI forum

    cheers
    j

Yeah as above it should disappear after the update. If not there maybe an update that specifically sorts that issue but think it was part of the MMI software upgrade.

    Hi all, new around here

Picked up my 2011 A7 the other week and have the same problem. Had a few emails with my local dealer (not where I bought the car) and they want to run diagnostics and charge for updates I think, I can't get a straight answer out of them at the moment. Is this something usually paid for? This is my first Audi so not dealt with the dealers before.

Also, I notice I can do the update myself. Is this recommended or something to avoid?

Of course you will have to pay for update.

Also you can do it yourself but the risk is high and small mistake, will kill your MMI.

So I should pay for something that is effectively broken? It's crazy that you can't use a phone and internal SIM at the same time.

I don't mind a small fee but they're quoting me £60 for diagnostics and then no mention of cost for the actual update.
I'm currently choosing which of my local dealers to deal with so hoping one will be a little more friendly but I'm not holding my breath.

To be honest, before you bought your car, you could research for faults or issues on forum like this. Then ask dealer who was selling to you to do update of software and map in price of car otherwise you will not buy. Small blackmail but it works all the time. If you buy AUDI you have to be prepared for cost of servicing and diagnostics.

£60 is normal working hour at AUDI dealer so not bad.

It's a fair point and something I'll bear in mind in future. It's just that it's such a basic thing I guess I'd be expecting it to work. I'm all for paying for things, I just want a straight answer that they don't seem to be able to give me. Is it going to cost me £60 or £200? I've told them the issue and how to fix it, they just need to do it. I've done half the job for them

in my case i only learnt of this issue in here after i bought the car, but logically speaking it is indeed a defect, reasoning as in my original post.

car went back to the dealer for some bits already on plans, i added this to the list, i believe the dealer is upgrading the MMI for me, will know for sure and whether it fixed the issue when i get the car back and will report back.

so far my experience is - the car's had it's teething issues but their service has been great, including what they've given me to run around in - a brand new Q5
