Vw Sharan Auto Gearbox Fault ? Runing In Limp Mode !

Any Help Much Appreciated !! Just Bought A 96 P Reg VW Sharan 1.8CL Petrol Auto
It Has A Gearbox Fault ?? It Is Running In Safe Mode I Have Been Told,It Dosn't Change Up And Down The Gears ! If You Put It In Drive It Will Drive Ok But Wont Change Through The Gears.. I Took It To My Local Gearbox Specialists As I Thought It Was A Fault With The Box,After They Had The Car For 2 Days They Told Me The Gearbox Was Fine And The Fault Lies With A Wiring Problem In The Loom Going To The Gearbox ?? They Say A ''Salonoid Has Lost An Earth'' Does This Make Any Sense To Anyone Please ?? They Said You Can Buy The Loom For £250 From VW Then £140 For Fitting But They Said A Good Auto Spark Shoul Be Able To Sort It Out ??
Any Help Possible Please Or Anyone In My Area (Ish) Who Could Look At It Would Be A Godsend...

Hi m8 i too have a gearbox prob with the sharan was told it was my ecu so i got another one and had it programed to the car and still the same then was told it was the clocks in the dash sending it into limp mode because the rev counter stopped working and the oil light started flashing so i got a set of clocks at a great cost and gues what still the same
so after it being in the dealers for 4 days at a cost of £700 quid and getting a nother ecu at a cost of £90 + £40 reprogramming and a set of clocks at £70 pounds it is in the same state as it was before i started . mine is the sharan vr6 2.8 4x4 and what a pile of poo it has turned out to be so good luck in your findings and hope you get yours sorted out because mine is going through the block
