    Hello all,

My A6 C6 has just suffered a wing mirror smack at speed:

Cowling gone, glass smashed, metal linkage between mirror and arm broken (my wife did a good job here).

Furthermore, it's made a small dent in the chrome trim at the sill of the window.

Wiring looks intact - it's dangling off it.

So - a few questions if I may:

I'm guessing that the broken alloy means the whole unit needs replacement. It's one of the auto dimming ones too. Can these be purchased anywhere OEM, and is it an easy job to replace?

How about the chrome trim? Is that a glue job?

My wife wound the window down so I suspect there's glass in the door now - is this a threat to the window surface?

If I want to a dealership, what would the supply, fit and VAT be - ish?

Thanks in advance; it's handy having this forum and no mistake...

We had a BM X5 at work that has the mirror smashed off it, GBP550 to fix, and it's not a painted type either, took less than 90 minutes to fix.

    Good luck

Parts and labour take this one up to £800, probably more as the chrome cill also needs replacing. Thank heavens for protected no claims...

    Hello Grubscrew,

I'm pretty much in the same poo, except mine isn't autofolding and non-dimming.
Audi prices for mine are :-
    Body £94.82
    Glass £49.86
Housing £91.70 (comes in grey primer)
    Indicator £27.01

Cost of painting approx £50. Didn't ask about labour cost of fitting.

So yours is likely to be more than this.

If you've already had it fixed, what was the final damage?

    Audi quotes £550 - £650, ouch!
Managed to get hold of a second-hand complete wing mirror from ebay for £160. Fitted it myself, took me 5 hours but I'm up and running again.

OP, why even mention to insurance...just get wife to pay for it!

Even with protected no-claims you'll still end up paying in the long run
