I've just installed an AMI cable into my 2010 Audi A6 (C6) (DVD-Nav, 2 SD Card Slots and 6 CD Changer, no Joystick) but I can only get it to work with a USB flash drive attached. It will not work with any iPod or iPhone cable.
Might an MMI Software update fix the issue? What is the most up to date MMI software and NAV Database versions I can install?

    Current Software Version: BNav_EU_P0029_D1
    Current Nav. Database Version 4G0 919 884 G_ECE 5.11.8

From what I have gleaned from many hours of searching I think the following would do.

    New Software Version: BNav_EU_K_0257 EU
    New Nav. Database Version: 4G0 919 884 R ECE 5.21.2

Third question - I think it might be easier to just ask an AUDI garage to do it and pay the price and not risk trying to do it myself and making a mess of it.

    Advice appreciated.

    Thanks, Joe

You could try the dealer but sometimes they won't complete the firmware side of things, however as your firmware is so out of date I don't believe the current maps are compatible, so they would have to do both. Expect paying around £200-£300 for the update from a dealer.

I take after fitting the cable you enabled AMI in the green (engineering) menu.?

Yeah I've enabled the AMI in the green menu after figuring out how to enable the menu without using VCDS.
There are quite a few options in the AMI menu (8 in total I think) - AUX, AMI, AMI BT and you can cycle through all the combinations of ON and OFF.

Might ask for a discount from the dealer given all the 'heartache' and 'stress' caused by the emissions scandal! ;-)

there are two different coloured cables, red and blue. It may be the case, as with mine you need the different cable. Mine was supplied with the red and I had the same issues you are encountering. Swapped a for a blue one and happy days.
