Hi, I have read the posts here on this subject, however I am hoping for a definitive answer or an approach to checking systematically how to fix immobiliser problem.
Same as others, after starting engine dies within 2 seconds and immobiliser light flashes, tried both keys and the same, I read somewhere there is a way to bypass it with a wire???. I have checked the obvious and all that has been discussed here but cant find a way forward. A4 97 1.8 is stranded miles from home and Im at my witts end, any help would be very genuinely appreciated.
    Thanks.

waggle the steering wheel adjuster can get it going short term, I fixed mine by cleaning the contact to the inductive ring around the ignition barrel, very small connector. Since then it been perfect (6 months)

mine has been fine for over 3 years. I moved steering column a few times while doing other things and no issues.

I also read somewhere about dry joints on the connectors / plugs.

    hi there

I've got the same problem what does moving the steering up nd down actually do. My car's been standing for a week now, starts and then dies immediately. And is there a way of by passing the imob.... pls let me know.

    Thnx

pre empting an update next week when I am hoping to pick up the car.....
I have had a difficult time generally at the mercy of a garage that doesn`t seem to know whta they are doing. I have replaced, keys, ignition barrel and somethinthing else they brokein the process of drilling the lock off???? and still nothing, Then they couldnt extract the pin code to match the ecu back to the immobiliser which seems to have been the fuault all along, been in the garage 2 weeks now, so I took the immobiliser to "a Guy" and he read the code which only the dealer will supply??? code is needed to tell ecu to accept immobiliser and that keys are good. Simple really should have taken 15mins, to diagnose and recode. Had a call today to say car starts and doesnt cut out. so am hoping to collect early next week.
The info and experience of others on here is invaluable, however as in most cases there are only so many variables in diagnosing and fixing a problem and of course they need to be worked through correctly with the proper equipment by someone who understands the process.
so...IMHO,you could have a loose wire in the steering column, the reader coil could be f......,the immobiliser could be f....., the ecu could be f......, chances are theryre not but somewhere between the key and the ecu there is a problem. There is no way of bypassing the immobiliser, That I know of after 2 weeks of looking and trying. Get it fault read and then when your fitter cant go any further cause it needs a pin code, which only dealers will charge you loads, find a "Guy" that can read the code and then get mister fitter to recode it!
    Good Luck!

You can't by pass the immo permanently, but if you have vag-com and the immo login code you can login to the immobiliser which then disarms it for 10 mins. Essentially you can start the car and move it

try Vag-commander to get a pin code if you don't have it. It cost around £50.. allot less than a dealer or ring an auto locksmith who should be able to help
