    Hello,

I have intention to do MMI 3G HDD update (software and maps).

This procedure will take at least 3 hours of updating. During this update it is essential that there is no voltage droppings.

I have 2 solutions: to switch on the engine and let it idle or to connect battery charger to the car.

I rather want to connect battery charger. I need some guidance which one to buy, on what to look for. Please note that I do not have same chargers in my country as you have in UK, so please advise characteristics of this battery charger that should have. Please also advise where to connect battery charger, directly on battery or on terminals in engine bay?

The car is Audi A6 sedan, 2.0 TDIe, 100kw, CAGB, manual transmission, and car has original battery in trunk.

I will give you tomorrow characteristics of my battery.

    Thanks and regards

    Novak

I use an Optimate 4 for my charging duties (bikes and cars).

For the car I always hook up to the jump-lead points under the bonnet (using the crocodile clips).

This is the unit I use:

That should be fine as it is only maintaining your battery state whilst it does the download.

There is one worry, my battery is AGM type, and these old charger is (I suppose) for old type of battery. Second thing that worry me is car's ellectronics.
It is better to buy one where is stated that is suitable for all types of batteries and cannot damage car's electronics.

There are battery chargers and there are good battery chargers.
CTEK won't damage your cars electronics, no matter how long you leave it charging.
