Finally after waiting since last May when my car was ordered, it has reached the assembly line. My question is to those people who have recently just received their ordered car - what sort of period of time are we talking about from when it pops off the assembly line to turning up at your dealer? I would imagine there are quite a lot of variables can affect this.

Also, if I can hijack my own thread - given the amount of flooding we have had recently, where is the air intake for the turbo located on the BiTDI? In my experience, turbo's don't generally like to be filled up with water!

    How's it taking so long?
I did a factory order in August and got mine in October. After I was told it was off the assembly line it was about 3-4 weeks before I got it. Pdi, delivery from the port was about a week.
I would be interested in how high the air intake is so I can figure out how deep I can go before I'm in trouble. So far the highest I've had is half way up the vents on the front bumper.
If I were you I would invest in winter tyres and not worry about the wading depth. I got to say I'm impressed with the winter tyres and Quattro. No drama, just grips and grips.

The huge delay was due to the exclusive colour but it should be worth it. I will post some pictures when it arrives after I've done a couple of minor mods I have in mind

Hi Don, my car took just over a week in the factory process - longest stage was QC and even then they missed things!

Then it took something like 5 days to find a ship in Germany and get across the waters (from memory 2-3 days more)

Once in UK, 2 days at port and then across to dealers where 3 days for pdi etc

Thanks NEmo. Very informative. Sounds like your car took about 3 weeks max to get to you.
My car was on the assembly line Saturday (though I do not know if the factory works weekends?) so the next stage is quality control.

I believe they do...my car went through all stages in a day each apart from QC.

Yup in total took 3 weeks for the car to be in my hands..

When I got my car last July I was told by the dealer that the transport company has 5 working days to get the car from the factory to the dockside, 5 further working days to get the car onto a boat and then once it is in the UK they have 5 days to get it to the dealer, so the maximum it should take is 3 weeks from leaving the factory to arriving at the dealer. I think most dealers assume a 4 week period from leaving the factory to the customer collecting and hope that it is shorter. In my case the dealer had another A6 Avant built in the same week as mine but it did not arrive at the dealer until 4 days after mine.

I guess the question for the OP now is that since it may not arrive at the dealer until mid Feb, do you the delay picking it up until 1st March to get the new plate? Even if you were to put a personal plate on it it may be more attractive to another buyer when you come to sell it by having a "16" rather than a "65"

Confirmed Build Date 11th January 2016

Build actually started on 8th January 2016

    Delivered 21st January 2016

Biggest variable is if your car is the last one on the boat and it departs immediately or indeed if it is the first and waits while the boat is filled.

Port of arrival may also vary times - Sheerness, Grimsby or Port of Tyne.

    Hope this helps.
