    Hi,

recently purchased a audi a3 1.9tdi E special edition its been spot on all but the past few days.

When I twist the key to start the car there is a shudder from the engine then it dies.
if i twist the key again it usually starts or it will take another go.
Its recently had a brand new flywheel and clutch fitted and has been serviced well.
    The car drives perfectly fine

    any help would be appreciated

    gav.

I would say glow plugs or injector seals.

I'm going to go take it to where I got it from tomorrow and see what they have to say
other than this shuddering when starting
the car drives perfectly fine no bother at all i
it doesnt all ways happen but when it does it just starts alarm bells going in my head and id rather have it sorted before it could lead to something else.

Do it does this when it is cold? Or when the engine is hot?

Doesn't that operate when you turn the engine off?

Depends on the engine and type of ASV fitted - the older vacuum operated only type operate when ignition turned off, the later ones modulate a flap to control intake air and EGR and shut off when ignition is turned off to act as the ASV. I had one of these later types fail on me, it lost its positional reference, for want of a better term, and ultimately failed closed shutting the engine down, but gave rough running before total failure. It seems to be relatively common failure on the PD engines as they get older.
