Today, I was driving down a road and drove past a parked car with another car driving down the other side, and before I knew it, I heard a gigantic bang and the idiot on the other side of the road driving had hit my driver side wing mirror. After noticing, I drove further down the road and parked next to the road to fix the mirror. The actual mirror was half-on and i managed to put it back in all working, but the indicator light plastic cover thing had cracked (but is still on), and I think that I made a mistake by forgetting to put some kind of rubber casing back into its place, and I don't want to take it off the damage it more. The light still works fine, but I am started to feel as if the wires inside the mirror are vulnerable, because the plastic indicator cover thing is cracked.

So what I'm asking is, can you buy one of those indicator light things online? And is there a safe way to replace the indicator light without breaking it or going to the Audi dealership?

P.S. That idiot had loads of space, probably some newbie driver didn't know his surroundi

You can replace it yourself, you will need to get the part from Audi.

You need to remove the glass, motor adjuster and mirror cap. You can then unscrew (of whats left of) the turn signal.

Glass? Angle it down fully and pull from the top from either side. It will unclip.

It'll become obvious once you have the glass out.

The mirror cap pulls away upwards but is quite tight.

I had to replace the indicator unit on my passenger side mirror due to an intermittent fault. There is no real guide on how to do it. I wrestled with the outer housing for about 30 mins before eventually getting it off. It requires a lot of patience and wriggling to get it to come off the motor bracket once you've taken the glass off, removing a couple of screws and undoing some clips. It then took some sturdy whacks to the top edge of the colour coded housing to eventually loosen it to come off.

Just persevere and it will come off. When you go to put it all back together, just make sure everything is lined up and secure, and cables are in the right place before giving it a good couple of sturdy thumps to knock it all back into place and screw it back together and put the glass back in.

Mine was intermittent when I bought the car second hand, and the garage ordered a new part from Audi and got it directly sent to me. Rather than driving the 100 mile round trip back to the dealer for them to do it, or letting Audi charge nearly £200 for the part and fitting, I did it myself. Glad I did in the end.

Yeah, but I'm not really sure if I'm going to do it, as it works fine but looks kind of ugly. Can you tell me how much the unit costs and where you bought it from? Cheers
