    Hi all,

I recently bought a 2011 A6 tdi 2.0 SE saloon privately. The previous owner has retrofitted the S line LED dlr + xenon headlights (original ones were halogen) and LED rear light cluster.

When I bought the car, there were error messages on the dash about lights not working but when I checked, most were working fine. The high beam (the bright lights when you flash or use on dark unlit roads) have never worked - pulling the stalk on the steering wheel does nothing, no bright lights nor the blue light on the dash. The rear fogs have never worked either.

I've ignored these faults as they didn't bother me. Until now. The car went in for an MOT and failed on both these issues - high beams and rear fogs not working - so I need to get this fixed urgently.

Took the car to 3 electrical specialists, each charged for diagnostic and each said something different. The one with the most experience says I need to buy a central lights control module (he says it's also called a comfort module) becuase the lights aren't getting enough power. If I can source one, he'll fit it.

Others said the previous owner has bypassed the high beam wire to the main headlight to make it work, and also used the wrong loom, but the experienced guy said wiring is fine. Not sure who to believe or what to do!

    My questions are:
    1. What is the central lights control module unit?
    2. What does it do?
    3. Will fitting this part sort out my problems and make the high beams and rear fogs work?
    4. What is the part number? Googled loads but can't work out what I'm looking for!
    5. Where's the best place to get one from?
    6. He mentioned beware component protection. What's this and how do I avoid it?
    7. Will all this make the error messages disappear (not a biggy, but would be nice!)

Any (urgent!) advice is much appreciated!

    Kal

You have really got a can of worms. The central convenience module is one of the controllers which make certain electrical things work. The one for the tailgate does the LEDs, tailgate lift, remote key, advanced key etc. I don't know much about them but I would think that you need the correct one fitted depending on the options fitted to the car. Probably best if you can get someone to scan the car for faults. It should be under central conv.
    1. The central convenience module controls various options on the car. I don't believe there is a separate one for only the lights but M1tchy on the A7 forum would probably know.
    2. As above
    3. Maybe. Depends if the previous owner chopped anything else.
    4. Google audi a6 c7 central convenience module or controller
    5. Try Kufatec or Hazzydayz
    6. All modules for our cars are component protected which means they can't be fitted to another car without being reprogrammed by an Audi garage. They will charge you for this.
    7. If the correct module is fitted then it should stop all the error messages.

Audi do a free health check which may be worth considering as it might show you what exactly is wrong. I still think you should get the car scanned to try and find out which faults are showing. Don't suppose the last owner gave you the old light fittings?

Don't just buy the first controller you find as they are all different. You would need to get someone with the same module as you require to give you the part number or one of the guys on here might have a look in etka. Think mine is 4H0 907 064 EP

    Good luck.
