golf 2.0 gt tdi mk v egr problems

hi guys,on an 07 golf gt tdi 170, my problem is when my car gets up to temp , it stutters a few times then the idle speed goes up to 1000rpm instead of the usual 850.and stutters a bit on acceleration. after looking around online i think it could be the egr blocked or need cleaning. car has done 99,500 miles. i have no dash lights, half my problem is finding the egr, i think it is at the front of the engine, i have basic mechanical skills but think this is more just a common sense job. would it be worth cleaning out ( new one is £177 from europarts ) is this my egr in the middle of pic with vw stamped on it, and is the anti shudder valve under it ?? 20151222_153332.jpg

The EGR valve is the part in between the inlet flap and the plastic inlet manifold and has the pipe going to it. Before ripping it to bits and getting covered in EGR goo, get it code read first. With these EGR valves, any problems are usually due to the electrics section being full of oil.
