Sorry to mention a non related VAG brand...but I've been tasked to change a front wheel bearing on my other halfs' Vauxhall Corsa!

Anyone had any experience of these? Easy or difficult, does it need a press?

    (I drive an A6)

    Cheers

No car really NEEDS a press if you know what you're doing with a wheel bearing

I've done both front bearings on my A6 and it definately needs a press, the only thing holding the bearings in is their tight (interference) fit and it takes a LOT of pressure to get the old ones out, and a fair amount to get the new ones in.

When I've done wheel bearings in the past, I've taken the bearing carriers (hub carriers) out, taken it down the road to my friendly neighbourhood garage, and paid him £10 to press out the old bearings and press in the new ones.

You need to find a garage that will do this, as some will only do the whole job.

Exactly what I did mate, currently looking at making my own press using a bottle jack and weight bench frame lol

My sincere apologies Captain, just done one of my front bearings with a lump hammer, some large sockets and a chisel, although it took some doing it can be done!

However unless (as you say) you know what you're doing I would recommend using a press if possible, especially for the A6 front!

It does make it easier however and I do tend to get them pressed for timesake. Some of the bearing puller kits are quite good apparently though i've never used one myself
