Just wondering what people are getting to a full tank on average. I'm just curious as to how mine compares to different cars and driving styles?

Car: Passat B5.5 70L tank (2001 plate with 85K on the clock). I've only had it around 3 months.
    Engine Size: 2L petrol 115bhp
Driving style: 70miles motorway daily M5, M42, M40, + 7miles urban daily, all in rush hour around 40mph majority of the time. Roads are fairly flat, no major inclines/descents
Miles on a full tank: 330-380

Prior to this I had an A4 Avant 2L petrol 55 plate, had loads of grief with that and only got around 15mpg mostly drove in urban rush hour in that. I do miss my A6 1.9Tdi avant though, used to get around 450-500 urban miles to the tank, 650 miles motorway miles to the tank.

Ouch, that's quite a difference to the diesel...

    Car: 2005 B5.5 Passat S 1.9 TDi PD 130 AWX Estate

I live in the middle of nowhere, 20miles of back roads (A595) to the nearest town basically,

On a town run I get around (45-48mpg) about 550-570 miles on a tank

On a family run (290 miles down m6) I get 53-55mpg or 670-700 miles to a tank roughly.

Amazing for a 10 year old car which was never looked after before I got it IMO

I will add that the motorway mileage is when being driven very conservatively. It doesn't have cruise control haha.

I have a Trendline tdi 130. My journeys vary considerably. I calculate my mpg rather than rely on the computer as it seems to over estimate by 2.5mpg.

Worst case, stuck in traffic going to work then a bit of motorway I get 40 mpg. Local journeys, as long as there are jams then about the same.
Best case, cruise on the motorway around 60 mph I might get up to 60mpg, possibly more if I am really careful (but bored).
I am amazed how good it is, it's got 190k miles on the clock. I've had various brand new hire cars on holiday claiming 70+ mpg which is a joke. I don't drive them hard but rarely get more than 50 mpg. E.g. Vw Caddy 1.6 tdi, Vauxhall Meriva 1.7 diesel, Citroen C3 diesel.
Maybe it's me but I laugh when someone spends £30k on a new car e.g. a 3 series BMW and then says what great mpg they get..... that's £30k worth of fuel to me, never mind the increased insurance costs and depreciation.

    Regards

My X plate A6 2.0 tdi used to give me 640 miles to a full tank of diesel in Urban driving, 9 mile trip to work & on motorway driving I got 740 miles to a full tank. The computer used to say around 53 mpg in town

My 2006 A6 gives me 620 to 640 miles on Urban and tank is 1 gallon bigger, computer says 46 mpg when at operating temp.

One thing I recommend to increase mpg is changing gear say around 2,500 to 2,800 rpm, this allows the turbo to kick in & increase mpg, it may sound a bit nosier until you get used to it.

Also an Italian decoke, hold car in 2nd gear keep revs just under the red for a few hundred yards and blast all the rubbish out the exhaust. Reset your computer, and watch your mpg improve whilst regaining power.

No EGR or DPF replacements for me
