The 1.8t aum has the k03s about the k04 i dunno, i think u probably can, but for sure u also have to change injectors or other stuff. Why u want to change the turbo? Is it not working properly? As i wouldn't change it unless its broken or damaged. ..

I think it's going the Last 4 days on start up its been a bit smokey and the last two days it feels like the turbo isn't boosting as it used to I know mk4 1.8t have there funny days were they run not properly due to all these N electronic valve. I changed my intercooler recently and found about 100ml of poured out of the old intercooler as I removed it. Could this be turbo valve stem seals

Have u checked all the vacuum hoses? I got the engine check light a few days ago and I noticed thw turbo wasnt going on as hard as it should, then vagcom told me the boos pressure was low, and i had a few vacuum leaks. ..i would check for that before changing the turbo

Well, id check for the hoses running from/to the n249 valve (careful with those, as there is a plastic tube connecting 2 hoses there that breaks fairly easily) and also the ones going to/from the n75 and also the ones from/to the discharge valve/wastegate. The best thing to do is to check all the vacuum lines in order to be sure there are no leaks there so you can check for other errors then. But this would be the most typical ones... Hope its that mate! Right now i have a few leaks and next week ill be replacimg all the vacuum lines with some silicone hoses, so hopefully itll be fixed.
