Fair point. I thought I wanted to get it back to original, but might end up leaving it how it is...

This thread is quite interesting 😄
In 20 years driving I haven't had a rat attack my car. That's quite an effort for a rat to get under the cam cover and chow through that pipe.
    Where do you live?

    His location says Amesbury, Wiltshire

3yrs of driving and never had it either, from what I've read usually more common in cars that are garaged...and they come from underneath.

You got the massive dust shield / sump guard to get through from underneath then work up the block and pick that specific hose to chow on.
I could understand if it's like my old 90s fiesta wher you could see the ground from under the bonnet.

Mice decided to make a nest under the engine cover of my Mk 4 Golf, which was in daily use at the time. They chewed all the foam off the back of the engine cover onto tiny pieces and moved hundreds of seed shells, presumably they ate the seeds first into the area on top of the inlet manifold. They obviously weren't living in there as they would have been fried when the engine started and ran for a while but dear knows what they thought they were up to. I lived in the country so plenty mice about, we also had a cat, useless, thankfully they never severely damaged any pipes or cables, I discouraged them as best I could but you can't block every hole.

Fairly common for them to chew through the leak off pipes, they also like the insulation from engine cover for making their nest.
I seen an article in a car magazine where they had eaten through cable insulation in a particular new car,and the owner managed to have his car replaced. I'm sure I read it correctly.

They used to go up the air intake in my Wife's old Fiesta, but a screwed up ball of wire soon put paid to that.

I'm amazed where the hose was located (top of engine under engine cover) and that it appears that only that one bit of hose was chewed. Apparently wiring often gets chewed, which would be much more expensive to fix!

Car is kept garaged, but I can't see any sign of rats or mice in there...
