Oil Pressure warning

Hi All,
First time post here, which I think can only be a good thing considering the mileage on my car!
So...I've a 2006 A4 avant TDI 140 with 350,000 km on the clock.
I've done most of the servicing myself since I bought the car with 75,000 km. Audi main dealer did my timing belt for second time this summer.

I commute 180km per day and I was heading home last night when the following happened:
low oil pressure warning, the ESP warning, glow plug warning and my rev counter dropped to 0

Never having had this problem, I pulled over, check my oil level which was fine. Tried to restart the car and it turned over but wouldn't fire up. Called the missus and got towed home. En route we stopped to let traffic past, I tried starting it and she started as normal but with the orange engine management warning on. After about 5km of driving all the above warnings came on again, so out came the tow rope.

I'm overdue a service, so my first thoughts were oil filter clogged, so I'm going to change the oil and filter this evening and see.

Based on the combined warnings and symptoms can any of you offer any help on the problem.

Oil pump drive failure, either the chain/gear (whichever it has) or the hex key.

+1 , covered a million times on the tinternet , but another unknowing victim of Audi's poor engineering will be along shortly .

but 350,000 km. would have though it would have gone long ag0.

For a 2006 to do 217K miles on admitted poor servicing I would not describe that as poor engineering, by 1980's standards it is nothing short of science fiction!

Just the oil pumps 5 poor points of engineering or 6 if chain driven.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I discussed the problem with a local in dependant garage and he was very familiar with the problem. He replaced the hex bar and also had to replace the crankshaft sensor (car wouldn't start when heated up and rev counter not working) . Its amazing how fragile that hex bar is considering how important its role is. Thankfully (touch wood) nothing else damaged as a result of this. I still have to drive it 80km home which should be the main test.
