Golf GT TDI 2009 140bhp service issue

Hi, i just bought this Mk6 VW GOLF today. the car was cheap at under £7k but this is partly due to the patchy service history.

It has 74k miles on the clock, the dealer changed the oil and topped up the levels (no filter change!).
Since it has a generic log book (not a vw one), i dont know when the cambelt and water pump change should be, the dealer presumed it hasnt had this major work done to it.

Could anyone give some advice on when its due?

4 years or 40K I think for cambelt

Do the diesel filter, air filter and cabin filter every 20 K

Do the Oil and Oil filter every 10 K

Water pump should be metal not plastic

looks like this car is well overdue a cambelt and water pump change.
The service book shows this has never taken place.

is it a given that it should be 4 years or 40k miles for cambelt change?

from Sept 2009 its 5 years

before its 4 years

that's depending on mileage, think its 60,000 now

my golf 2.0 tdi golf (129grams co2) was registered in may 2009 so i assume thats 4 years in between cambelt change

4 years, 5 years. either way yours is due. i would get it into a good indi garage for a full timing belt kit with pump and new antifreeze. plastic or metal impellor, if you change it on time it doesn;t matter, just that some folk think the plastic ones break. have fitted hundreds of plastic ones as this is what most suppliers supply, including vw. anyway, you need a full service, filters oil etc,,, and sooner rather than later.

We only fit genuine VAG cam belt kits and water pumps, these all come with the plastic impeller and I have never had one fail. After 2009 it is 5 years and the mileage VAG specified became hilarious, something like 120K miles.

ok thanks guys, i just presumed that VAG genuwine water pump had a metal impeller. guess thats not the case.

i will buy the parts from gsf and ask my mechanic to do the service.
im assuming a tensioner kit will be needed along with the cambelt: Timing Belt Tensioner Pulley

the garage i bought the car from, they replaced the oil and 'topped up the levels' but nothing else !!
i'm presuming the oil they used is decent quality.

never presume anything, just get an oil change done. if you buy a gates kit then everything needed is in the box.
