would you hear any of these noises on idle or just on the road?

I personally think it's best on the road as before my OP drive failed the turbo was a bit loud and rumbling slightly. After replacing the OP drive key and balance shaft with the modified parts the turbo sounded lovely and smooth with a quiet whistle once it spooled up. The centre shaft of the turbo which has bearings each end floats on a high pressure oil feed so should be fairly quiet. When driving at around 30mph and then accelerating briefly to 40mph you should be able to hear the faint whistle increasing with no roughness this is normal. The turbo when the engine is revved from idle can whirr very slightly as it spools up and slows down which can give you the impression something is wrong. Hence I prefer listening to it under normal load.

This is my personal opinion however and others may differ.
