Air suspension parts for C6 Avant

Hi all,

After my car was involved in an accident (not my fault), the car has been sitting in my driveway for the past few weeks and have noticed that the rear has dropped way down on both sides. I've posted about my air suspension problems before, but it seems as if I have a very slow leak as it's taken quite some time for the suspension to drop - it's not just an overnight occurrence.

I've been quoted £349.06 + VAT for a genuine air spring (part number 4F0616001J ) plus £105 + VAT for fitting per side, making this job a total of 2 x air springs (£698.12) plus 2 x fitting (£210) plus VAT which brings the total to £1,089.74

I've seen these on ebay but they're not genuine Audi parts...

This 3rd party part is only £115 bringing the total expense down significantly.

My questions to you fine people are as follows...

Does anyone have any experience with these parts or can recommend different parts? Would these last as long as the genuine parts? Do you think having 3rd party parts fitted reduce the resale value of the car when I come to sell it on (I'm thinking of keeping the car another 2 years or so, plus after that my other half might want to keep it on for herself for another year or two after that)?

Tried to but insurance company just wants to write my car off. It'll be a cat D but I want to repair the car and keep it using the cash settlement they'll give me.

I bought one from here Audi A6 - C6 Allroad Suspension Air Spring Rear - Left or Right - Air Bag 04-11 | eBay from Northern Ireland.

Changing it was a fairly easy job - I still haven't done a write-up but I did a short description here Important Audi A6 allroad 2.7

Did you notice any performance issues with this non Audi part? When did you fit the part - how long has it lasted so far?

I would love to do this myself, but I just don't have the time or the proper tools unfortunately. Once we're moved into a house with some space I can get proper tools and do this sort of stuff!

Aerosus and Miessler both do those springs. They're a bit dearer than the ones you linked to (and the Miessler ones are out of stock at the moment), so you pays your money and you takes your choice, I guess.

I had some dealings with Aerosus recently - for some bits which were rather less expensive than what you're looking for - but notwithstanding that, they were prompt, efficient, polite, answered e-mails quickly (always a good sign) and asked me to rate my experience with them when we were all done and lying back smoking cigarettes in a post-purchase glow.

Based on this I'll almost certainly use them again when I need to replace the front dampers on my 4BH.

As far as the car's future value being affected, provided the replacement springs are working as intended - and you can't ask any more of them than that, after all - I don't think it would make an appreciable difference.

I fitted it earlier this year and it was fine.

I did have an intermittent issue a couple of months after that I cured with a suspension ride height calibration - and tyre inflation, so not sure if I should have done it after the fit or kept a better eye on the tyre pressures!

I also live off-road - normal springs do not last on my other cars so i'm interested to see how long the air-spring stays good for!

I'm thinking of changing all four springs on my car (A6 Allroad 3.0 TDI '06). After 150k miles on the clock and nine years old, I hear noise from the suspension when passing rough roads. I haven't noticed any air leak after I left the car for two weeks in the garage.
I will most likely order the Aerosus or Miessler springs as genuine parts are double the price. Do I need to change any other parts while doing this or the springs are the only parts need to be changed?

If the car doesn't drop if left after 2 weeks, why are you changing the air springs?

I had a leak from the valve block at first which got changed - perhaps find the air leak first? What does a VCDS scan show?

I decided to go for the genuine Audi parts in the end. I don't want the handling of the car to be affected by having the 3rd party parts.
