    Dear All,

I am trying to get info regarding coolant capacity of my car. The car is Audi A6, C6 Model, CY 01/2011, engine 2.0 TDIe, 100kw, manual gearbox. No auxiliary heating, digital A/C.

I need this info as I will perform timing belt change soon. I have tried to obtain this info from manual, but, there is mentioned that I have to use coolant G12++ complying to specification TL 744 G and mixing ratio (warm area up to 50% max and cold area up to 60% max). No information about capacity.

Can you please advise me what is capacity of coolant system on my car?

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers

    Novak

If you're quick you'll not lose much when changing the water pump.

Are you doing a full flush?

I read on manual that coolant is for entire life of vehicle. I am just planning how to catch and not to contaminate the coolant when I start this job. I would like to use it original as much as I can. First I will check on freezing point of current coolant. I will try to lose as min as I can and to add coolant only to maintain same mixture (freezing point) as on beginning.

I do not have intention to do the flush of the system.

But, I like to see how it looks like inside when I take out water pump I like to check everything and to clean when I dismantle so many parts (especially because I bought car recently). I will do it at my home and I will probably take all my weekend to do this job. Slowly and easy (as I used to do on my previous car).

My understand was that any coolant had a max life of 5yrs, if it's never been done then change it all

    This stuff is VAG approved:

Xstream® G40® Antifreeze & Coolant Concentrate : Manufacturer Approved Antifreeze & Coolants : Products Guide : Comma Oil & Chemicals Ltd.

    I know my 3.0 takes 12 litres

    Thanks Mark for info,

The coolant and timing belt have never been changed on my car. In January will be 5 years old and arond 180000km on clock(timing belt should be changed at 210000km according to service book but I will do it very soon). I was thinking to change it completly, but, when I read on onboard manual that coolant is for entire veichle life and that they have added some aditives to prevent rust, I start to think to keep of it as much as possible for next 5 years.

What do you think about it?

coolant protects against ice but also against corrosion. thing is, old coolant will still stop ice forming but will rot the engine from the inside out. one minibus that i look after never had a coolant change when the council were looking after it. its only an 07 plate. first the head gasket went, rotted out, so we did that. the the heater matrix leaked so we did that. unfortunately it leaked all over the airbag ecu, so that was another grand wasted. then the oil cooler sprang a leak. so the 100 quid saved by not changing the coolant has so far cost about £3000. the other bus thats been in my care since day 1 has not had to have any extra work done to it due to neglect. change your coolant every 5 years. not just by dropping the pump but by the bottom hose. then fill with water, run for 5 mins and drain, then fill with new coolant.

    That is horrible story Zollaf.

To be honest, on my ex A4, I have changed each time when I changed timing belt but without flushing it, only disconnecting both hoses from radiator. As I remember, the capacity was 7,5 liters, I spill almost 6 liters because I fill it with 3 liters of G12 + 3 liters of distillate water. So, always remained about 1,5 liters in system. Think that this cannot harm the system.

Now, I am thinking to do the same, but without flushing. I do not like to fill it with fresh water as will always remain some of it in system. I prefer some of old coolant to remain than some of undestillated water.

Sounds like you'd be out of business if everyone changed their coolant at regular intervals.

Now, I need to know the capacity of my system in order to know how much G12++ i need to buy and to know how many coolant/water will remain when I fill it with new fresh mixed coolant.
