Hi all, I have a strange fault on my 2006 A8 3.0 TDI.

about 6 months ago, I left the ignition on and the battery completely drained. Once I got the battery charged, everything had reset itself as expected. But there were also other problems - no parking sensors, no air suspension control, half of the systems in the MMI were not there. I figured it was a coding issue.

I fixed all the issues I could and got back the missing functions. The ABS module had lost its coding so I recoded that to the correct value. I also used the hidden MMI menu to bring back some of the on screen functions.

6 months later, the car is mostly fine apart from 1 physical function. the car does not go up and down like it used to when selecting dynamic, auto, comfort setting. When you select lift, the car goes up just fine. When you select any other setting, it goes back down.

A code read on the air suspension reveals nothing - output test works fine. The only code is on the ABS module which is as follows.

Address 03: ABS Brakes Labels: 4E0-910-517.lbl
    Part No SW: 4E0 910517 B HW: 4E0 614 517 BC
    Component: ESP 5.7allrad H44 0510
    Coding: 0008357
    Shop #: WSC 02313000 00000
    VCID:224BBAF9FD2FEA2E6B-8076

    1 Fault Found:
    00003 - Control Module
    014 -Defective

I think this fault is causing the issue with the air suspension. There is some guidance on this page 00003 - Ross-Tech Wiki. It states you should do the following to clear the fault.

"When found in Audi A8/S8 (4E): Audi A8 (4E) Brake Electronics, this Fault Code may have been stored after performing an Output Test in the Brake Electronics Control Module w/o following the proper Instructions. To clear this Fault Code, please perform/repeat the following Steps 3 (THREE) times:

    • Switch the Ignition OFF for 5 Seconds, then Switch it ON again.
    • Clear Fault Codes in Brake Electronics Control Module, then exit out of the Control Module."

I have tried every combo of this and the fault will not clear. I have also tried to recode and to calibrate the steering sensor - no joy.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is it indeed this fault causing the issue with the suspension? What about disconnecting the ABS module?

    Thanks all

I got the same ABS fault code set a few years ago - I found on google a few other people who did and sent the URL to RossTech who said they had never heard of it and would look into it. They then got back to me and said disconnect the ABS module overnight. I couldn't be bothered so left it - some time later, they published the procedure above, I tried it many times on several occasions to no avail.

Whether this affects the suspension, I'm not sure, so will test tomorrow.

Often the suspension air control valve inside the left inner wing, behind the liner, suffers from corrosion to its wiring.

Hi Crasher, I took the large connector off the ABS unit and it was completely clean - no hint of corrosion at all - which is annoying as I was hoping it was going to be a simple fix. The wiring looks in good condition too. Any other ideas? The ABS itself works fine and no lights on the dash at all.

What I forgot to point out was that I was referring to the suspension control valve inside the left inner wing.

Ah yes, I know that valve, it's behind the liner of the wing. I saw it when I was clearing the blocked sunroof drains. Will take a look on the weekend and report back.
