That's what it feels like a lot of the time especially when cold. You press the pedal nothing happens then whoosh you're off. The mechanic I use changing the oil to see if that helps, I've had a few autos but nothing like this

05 2.0 tdi you probably mean is it cvt ect don't know all I do know is that it can be used as "manual" when the levers moved to the left. I quite often use it like when cold as it takes ages to change in auto mode. But it's this "elastic band" type symptom especially when cold, plus Audi auto boxes don't get a good rep at the best of times

Ok so multitronic, has it had its 39k oil and filter changes religiously?

The tiptronic and s-tronic gearboxes are pretty reliable, it's just the multitronic (cvt) which gets a bad name.

A Multichronic is a single speed constantly variable transmission, not an automatic, with any perceived steps being artificially created by the box placing the drive belt in a particular position to simulate a gear ratio. All these boxes have that rubber band feeling, it's how they are.

We have a 100K mile 2009 A6 2 litre TDI which is probably going to be broken for spares as the Multichonic has let go in a big way and fixing it will cost more than the car is worth, 2009!
