    Hi all,

I am having an issue with the drivers side front window of my A6 1.9TDi 2003 avant. It makes a horrible noise and has a mind of it's own. Today it has gone down and I cannot get it back up again, it gets to a max of half way and there it stays. I took the door panel off and could see a load of plastic shavings in the bottom of the door, so it looks like something has eaten itself!

Does anyone know how I can get the window up again manually?

    Thanks

    Dan

if you look in door & see white plastic wheels in a channel, then go to Halfords and buy some white grease

Put that in the channel .................... you may need to put window up/ down to do this , then try and get window up and down to lubricate these wheels

Failing that, is the window regulator jammed or misaligned.

    Is the motor working ?

Usually you can push & pull it up to jam with a piece of wood

    Thanks for your reply.

I had a look and can't see any white wheels anywhere?

Re the motor I think that is what is at fault as that's where the graunching noise is coming from. I am guessing that a cog or cogs have failed and the mechanism has eaten itself up? But the window cannot be lifted beyond half way, I can feel the cables are tight as hell and I am unable to physically move it any further up, but it will go down with under the motor's power

It may be the steel cable which has frayed and fouling on white plastic pulley,
Motor and pulley assy may need to be removed to loosen cable to allow window movement
Then it will require a new regulator assy.

Thanks for that. I'm have covered it for the evening and will take it to a friends garage to have a better look tomorrow morning. Is the cable part of the regulator assembly? I guess that the motor mechanism will be knackered too though...

Hi all. I have had a good look on line and i think it is the motor/cable jamming. Bottom line is it won't get fixed today (need to order the parts and its going to be monsoon conditions today - awesome timing!!) so does any one know how I can get the window into the closed position without stripping the window frame down? If I can get the window back to closed I can at least drive around but at the moment I can't drive it in the wet lie it is

    Any thoughts appreciated

I may be wrong, but I think the only way to get it moving up to the top is to remove the motor, then the plastic pulley unit ,or maybe cut the cable to allow the window
to be lifted up manually and wedged in place. Maybe by cutting cable it is possible to leave motor in until you have replacement regulator

Thanks for your reply. I was just starting to think about cutting the cable. I think that's the only way until I can replace the whole thing.
