    Hello guys,

Trying to solve this one, I have changed the standard wheels from 16" 225 to 19" 255/35
I also changed the SE springs with Eibach springs that lowered the car by 30mm ... nothing extreme there.

I have done 4 wheel laser alignment.

Yet the steering does pull a lot (tram lines) when it finds problematic roads ... this happens especially to speeds up to 50mph.
On the motorway the car drives fine with no problems etc.

The tires are standard (non run flats) 255/35 Pirelli P Zero Nero Rosso 96Y and they came from an RS4 about 4mm left on them, I put them on to see if I was happy with the ride etc when I changed the wheels. None of them had repairs ... or suspicious wear.

Where shall I start looking? there are no suspesion noises and everything is tight.

Is there a setting that needs to be changed via VCDS for the (Servotronic) steering rack when changing wheel dimensions? Or do I have to upgrade some bushes to the car with the "S6"? in order to get a better point and go...

Has anyone had similar problem before?

    Cheers
    Vasilis.

As you've lowered the car and put on bigger wheels with wider tyres tramlining is your future I'm afraid.

    Edit:

You're quite close to me too, the roads round here are terrible. I had a lowered Passat (45mm) on 15s and it was like driving a train at times. The A2/M2 was particularly bottom clenchingly terrible.

You can try a tyre with a different/deeper tread pattern. The P Zero Nero is quite well known for tramlining.

Adjusting the toe can help but you need to find someone willing to go outside of the normal manufacturer's settings. It takes a bit of time to get it right, so much so I gave up and learned to live with it (I'm a liar, I took the big wheels off!)

You have made no mention of the Offset E number. Regards Peter

I know I have done this with many of my previous cars , lower and change the wheels, but none was as bad as the A6... it is like the car is trying to kill you on the back B roads etc lol
No problem on A2/M2/A299 though it drives fine once on the motorway move.
I do have to agree the roads down here in Kent... are awful compared to the rest of the country

I think I am due for a visit for a custom allignment with Wheels In Motion they would do any setting you like to improve the car. They had done this with my IS300 sportcross and the car was planted!

I assume you mean the alloys offset? 45 as you can see from the spec found on the boxes

Pros. Better ultimate lateral grip. Looks (subjective).

Cons. Tramlining, harsh ride, road noise, more expensive tyres . And potholes / kerbs will kill your tyres.

So if you regularly exceed 0.8g (lateral) and have an unlimited amount of dosh for tyres on the potholed roads of Kent stick with the 19s.

Welcome to the world of big tyres on the c6! Better known as the Le Mans spec!

I have had my car for 2 yrs and still I feel the ride to be somewhat jarring. Strangely enough it's much better in wet.....

I wondered if I too should Change my suspension, but I don't want any nasty surprises!

I can't stand the ride, but a 2007 avant lemans looks badasss!

Those who have 19" ... what tyres you think it will have less tramlining effect?

    lower profile/stiffer sidewall = tramlining

The alternative would be to look for a tyre that has constant complaints of a weak/soft sidewall, but as you know that will have a significant downside in cornering, curb damage and wear rates, so is a swings/roundabouts think.

I believe the Uniroyal rainsport 2, whilst great in the wet had a weak sidewall, now superceded by the RS3.
