    Dear all,

    I have an odd issue:
1-Passenger door open and closes fine.
2-When I drive off, all doors lock as expected, when I stop, passenger door can still be opened from outside.
3-However, when I central lock the car, I can only pen the door from the inside.

Surely, if it can be opened from outside after self lock..so can it after central locking. At least this suggests the mechanics are working fine.

On a side note, I have a service needed reminder on dashboard. Which is odd cos I had full big service done 3 months ago. I am suspecting it may have to do with the radiator fans, which neither are working ...at least from what I could see. Tested driving for an hour, and they still dont spin.

Feeling like a poor soul who have 6 rotten teeth and postponing the dentist visit. It is gonna hurt !

    Any help would be appreciated

    /Sam

Having had 2 door locks replaced I can tell you that you need a new door lock. It starts to work intermittently before you will get consistent symptoms and it becomes a nuisance. Here's an example of my experience (which I think is what you are getting); The door cannot be opened with the fob from the outside, You open the door from the inside, drive off, stop and then you can open the door at your destination from the outside. Eventually it will get so bad that you will only be able to open it from the inside. The whole lock mechanism is a single electronic unit with an electrical motor. A fault like this, particularly when it becomes very frequent, will show up on a diagnostic scan that the lock unit is faulty. A new lock is about 140 and takes 2 hours to fit. I believe it is quite fiddly and you have to be careful of the glass.
Regarding the service reminder; you don't say what year of car you have but the reminders are in effect just a count down timer with no intelligence as to car faults. Pull the right hand stalk on the dashboard instrument cluster and see what comes up on the display -this may shed some light.

Thanks a million Alankru for sharing and for your input !
What puzzles me is that issue seems consistent. If I don't use central lock remote, or key all is fine.

Really nice trick with with reading service warning, it clearly said Oil :-) Again it is odd, had full big service 3 months ago, and oil was changed. Not much driving since..

    Once again, many thanks !!

    /Sam

As I say, the door lock is a complete unit, therefore if you are having problems and it isn't the handles then that is all it can be. If the issue has happened for a little while, then a fault with the lock will show on a VCDS (or equivalent) diagnostic scan.

Regarding the service warning, they obviously forgot to reset it when you had it serviced....or else it didn't reset properly (VCDS can have issues resetting the service warnings on the newer Audis).
