    hi all...

while driving along today my 04 1.8t s line, it started sounding funny, and lost power. sounding a bit like a diesel.

checked the dashboard, there is a emission control warning light on there flashing.

    quite worrying really.

does anyone know if this a serious problem, and costly to repair?
also the car is covered under the audi service/warranty, so would this fault be covered under it?

Can anyone give any advice on this?

    thanks.

If its under warranty, book it straight in! Its probably a coil pack that has gone, a common problem & easily sorted. Its a small block that clips on top of the spark plug to sort out ignition, if it stops working you get a misfire, hence the rough running you've experienced. Its a cheap quick fix. Dont drive it anywhere though else you'll cause some big damage, get it booked in immediately!

    thanks nicky.

you have hit the problem on the head.

unfortunatly been unable to get it looked at so far.

have made several atttempts to get through to call the Docklands Audi, left messages with them no joy!!!

they dont want my custom maybe.... might just pay for it, and go to a small audi specialist in my manor if he can do it a reasonable price.

i'll let u kno how i get on.

    thanks again mate.

    word of advice..

if its a coil pack buy 4 news ones for £25.00 from your local Audi dealer, (parts desk) and fit your self, it will take you about 15 min to fit these, only 4 screws..

    Rick.

finally got thru to the docklands audi service centre in the morning.

apparently, with the warrantly, it includes home start cover, so they sent someone over and fixed it within 20mins.

i werent at home, so not quite sure what they did, but will give you guys an further update later.

    thanks for your responses.

they sent rac down to fix it.

he hooked up his computer to the ECU and apparently they replaced the 2nd coil pack if that means anything to you?

only took him about 30-40mins in total.

Yep, as predicted, another coil pack bit the dust!! The "2nd coil pack" no doubt means No.2 cylinder. 30-40mins though, he must of stopped for a cup of tea & read a newspaper!!!!

I was just about to post a question about my own emission warning light problem, however the issue posted by the OP is exactly identical to mine. I have an 04 1.8T - its a company car leased from Lloyds autoleasing and i've only had it a week - so i'm not so worried about the cost of the repair.

It started misfiring on Saturday on my way home and it was driving like it was constantly about to stall (almost like its in too-high gear at very low revs but since its a multitronic box what can ya do!)

I was about to run it over to my local Audi dealer in the morning, but after reading the warning above i'm not sure its such a good idea. The car was registered in July 2004 and i have no idea if its in warranty or not. Would a trip of about 6 miles to the dealer be a good idea or should i ask for a callout or get it towed?

I cant really wait a few days to get this fixed as i need to use the car at some ridiculous hour of the morning for a trip to the airport this coming Tuesday

    Thanks
    Ian

    Just a quick update...

Leasing company sent the RAC out. RAC chap said it was probably a good thing that i didnt drive the car in the condition it was in.

He then fitted a spare coil pack thing to No. 2 cylinder and I drove it to dealer with RAC chap following me. Bought a new coil pack from parts desk and chap from RAC fitted it and car is now running fine.
