    A case of RTFM?

This current radio ad is rather good for those that 'boot it' on country roads:

My dealer said that no running is is required.

All the same, from my engine building days, I consider the first hundred miles to be pretty important but after that, there's little to be gained from any restraint. You are looking for any contacting surfaces to gently polish each other, rather than grind together. Most of this will be done by the bench runs at the factory, but still worth avoiding full pedal acceleration for the first few hours.

The quality that the components are made to today (bearing shells, piston rings, bore surfaces etc) is far superior to those of our cars twenty years ago. Except Mercs, perhaps.

You would think in today's technologies the computers will stopped you doing anything stupid if it needed a bed in period.
Also some manufacturers test run all engines on a test bed before assembling in cars

The computer already restricts max rpm until the oil is up to full temp.

Also noticed in the first few hundred miles the gearbox in Eco or auto mode wouldn't select 7th gear till I was doing about 70mph. Now with 700 miles on it it will go into it around 50mph
So that could be the system bedding itself in. Not exactly difficult to program into an Ecu

I am glad you mentioned this because I thought I was going crazy. When I picked up my car it was doing 80mph at roughly 2k revs (I don't remember what gear it was in). Now with just over 5k miles on the clock I can easily do 100mph and still have the rev counter at less than 2k.

I always thought it was common sense to look after a car for the first few thousand miles.
Further to Mark's post - Members have come unstuck on VWAF when posting things they didn't realise would be read by people in a position to use said things against them.

Please be mindful of your posts when making them.

Weirdly having been a magistrate I've seen many of the 'unstuck' in the past in my capacity...strangely they looked decidedly sheepish/repentant

Superfluous apostrophe - and to think you were a magistrate! Ought to be against the law.

Just be careful what you put on a public forum eh.
