Engine Rattling when idle & at low Revs

Hi All,

I have an A4 automatic (2008) which has done just under 100,000 miles. I recently had the cam belt changed at around 80k. The engine rattles on 2 separate occasions, one is when the the car is idle and in either Drive or Reverse and it makes a loud rattling noise and the other is when taking off at very low revs. Not only on cold mornings but intermittently when setting off from lights or when accelerating after taking a tight bend. The car has always been serviced and other works been carried out by the Audi dealership in Leeds. Any ideas what it could be before i give it to Audi for the MOT and ask them to look into it and they charge me an arm and a leg?

All advice and help will be greatly appreciated.

Something like this was prone to happen when the alternator pulley started to break up on the B6 A4s, but I don't know if the B8s are
so afflicted. Might be worth having a listen at idle near the alternator.

i have to ask one question, what engine do you have that rattles ?

It is a 2.0 diesel that i have. Yes the diesel engines do sound like tractors at times but this is something else.
